A Book for Every Child Foundation was founded in 2009 in an effort to address the plight of school libraries in disadvantaged communities with the aim of bringing back the culture of reading.
Vuyokazi Biyana with the assistance of her team renovated and stocked up Igugu Primary School library in Mofolo South, Soweto with new books.
The school was one of tens of thousands that do not have a proper library, thus slowing the rate of reading among children. The Foundation has thus set itself a huge task to establish libraries at schools in disadvantaged communities.
In order to meet its goals, the Foundation will hold annually, a South Africa Children’s Book Fair (SACBF) or Children’s Book Fair bringing together authors, cartoonist, publishers, illustrators, educators, librarians, booksellers, government departments, Early Childhood Development practitioners, media and other trade professionals to share information pertaining to children’s growth and development.
